Fertilizer and Weed Control

With 30+ years in the lawn care industry, we have found there are 3 things you must do to have a beautiful lawn:  proper watering, fertilizer and weed control,  and proper lawn mowing tailored to the needs of your lawn.

At Northern Roots Lawn Care and Irrigation Service we offer all three of these steps for you, to have a beautiful lawn made easy.

Northern Roots Lawn Care and Irrigation will take a soil sample of your lawn to help us create the fertilizer program for your lawn.  This will be done at the first application, and can give us a wide range of information to tailor the specific treatments we perform, for your lawn’s optimal health.

  1. Winter Pre-Emergent Treatment: weed control treatment to prevent new weeds such as hyacinth or poe anna, wild onions and fescue clumps. A broadleaf weed treatment will be done at this time to get rid of any existing weeds.
  2. Spring Pre-Emergent Treatment: controls grassy weed such as crab grass and other summer weeds. Broad leaf weed control will be done at this time as well.
  3. Spring Fertilizer:  both fast and slow release will be applied along with a broad leaf and grassy weeds application to get rid of any existing weeds past pre-emergent.
  4. Early Summer Fertilizer: both fast and slow release will be applied along with a broad leaf and grassy weeds application to get rid of any existing weeds past pre-emergent.
  5. Summer Fertilizer: both fast and slow release will be applied along with a broad leaf and grassy weeds application to get rid of any existing weeds past pre-emergent.
  6. Fall Fertilizer: both fast and slow release will be applied along with a broad leaf and grassy weeds application to get rid of any existing weeds past pre-emergent.
  7. Fall Weed Control Treatment: to prevent cool season weeds and broad leaf weed control for any existing weeds.
  8. Lime/Gypsum: applied depending on your pH level in your lawn.  This will help restore the pH levels back to optimal growing levels and add important nutrients to your lawn.

Turf Care Weekly: March – October

Weekly lawn mowing, done in a different direction each week to prevent rutting.  Trimming and edging will be done each visit, as well.  Trash and debris will be picked up before mowing and driveway, sidewalks and patio areas will be blown off after mowing.

Turf Care Bi-Weekly:  November – February

Leaf, trash and debris will be blown out of landscape beds and lawn areas will be mowed with leaf pickup to maintain a neat appearance.

Irrigation

A properly functioning irrigation system is a very important part of keeping a well maintained, healthy lawn and landscape.  A complete inspection of your system will be done at the time of start up.  All sprinklers will be adjusted for proper coverage.  System will be checked for leaks and controller will be programmed.  Additionally, we supply a report if any repairs are needed as well as specific recommendations based on the performance of your sprinkler system.
